Cleveland man sentenced to 13 years for trafficking two teenage girls for sex at Independence hotel

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland man was sentenced to 13 years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 for selling two girls as prostitutes out of an Independence hotel last July.

Fredric Brown, 35, maintained his innocence throughout his trial and in a lengthy soliloquy during his sentencing hearing.

"I'm not a pimp," Brown told Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Michael Jackson. "I wasn't pimping children. They were doing that on their own."

Brown also has to register as a Tier III sex offender, which means checking in with authorities every 90 days for the rest of his life.

Jackson found Brown guilty of recruiting two 15-year-old girls from his neighborhood to traffic for sex out of a hotel in Independence. Prosecutors said Brown advertised the girls on a website, and set up "dates" for them. One of the girls had been on two "dates." The other girl did not have sex in exchange for money.
